    JOB SUMMARY
    The Logistics Manager manages logistics activities for TDS and its affiliated companies.  The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: managing and leading the TDS dispatch team; leading process mapping and process improvements for activities affecting operations; management of new business roll-outs; and management and oversight of driver on-board computing technology.  This position is also tasked with promoting a safe work environment and collaborative working relationships among logistics staff, other Operations staff and with other departments.  The Logistics Manager provides leadership and oversight to a team of dispatchers, de-briefers and logistics professionals in a 24-hour operation.

    DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    Manage TDS’ and its affiliated companies’ centralized dispatch operation.
    Hire, train, and supervise staff (including mentoring, coaching and evaluating and addressing performance).
    Manage process mapping and process improvement efforts as directed by the Operations Director, including development of process maps and descriptions and training materials, the roll out of new processes and collaboration with TDS departments.
    Develop roll out plans and oversee implementation of roll outs of new business (including the full roll out of new customer cities and other major accounts), as well as the roll out of technology updates and changes. 
    Develop and maintain a departmental staffing plan which ensures adequate staffing for proper coverage while minimizing overtime expense and to meet company growth projections and expectations and communicate staffing plan to Director of Operations.
    Promote a safe work environment, and ensure logistics staff is aware of and addresses any safety issues associated with the manner in which work is dispatched. 
    Ensure drivers are not dispatched to do any work that violates TDS safety protocols or Department of Transportation (DOT) rules.
    Maintain awareness of DOT regulations, and manage logistics staff to ensure compliance with DOT commercial driver and hauler regulations, including driver log requirements, driver hour of service limitations, and equipment maintenance schedules.
    Oversee the use of on-board computing technology in Operations, including the use of software and on-board computers (tablets), driver training on use of software and tablets, leading technology improvement efforts and planning and overseeing roll-outs of software updates or changes.
    In consultation with the Director of Operations, communicate regularly with other TDS departments, as needed, regarding equipment needs, special hauling or closings.
    Oversee third party hauling contracts.
    Develop and oversee hauling schedules to maximize efficient use of TDS resources across multiple facilities and service areas. 
    Analyze available data from the debrief process and provide Operation managers with feedback.
    Collaborate with other TDS departments and affiliated companies to integrate logistics with new business systems or processes, such as customer sales and contracts, acquisitions, and outbound commodity sales, etc.
    Develop and support logistic plans for any special hauling projects in coordination with the Operations Director, Operations managers and the sales team.
    Develop vendor relationship with contract haulers for TDS and implement a process to ensure review of contracted services and related invoices.
    Maintain an awareness of external influences that can affect productivity and profitability, including fuel costs, changes in regulatory environment, trucking industry trends and demand for resources to effectively support the organization to manage cost and budget.
    Collaborate with Operations managers, the routing department and the Operations Business Support team to improve operational and performance metrics, and provide information and recommendations to help achieve optimal daily routing of services.
    Develop and maintain a process to ensure daily review of work to ensure completion, document maintenance and effective communication of uncompleted work. 
    Conduct review of pending contracts for operation services and coordinate input from Operations System Managers and submit recommendations to Director of Operations.
    Other duties assigned by the Director of Operations.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, transportation business administration or related field and at least 5 years of management experience, including experience managing dispatch operations;
    Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to give clear direction;
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    High level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with routing and other truck industry software;
    Ability to work successfully in a high-stress, fast-paced environment;
    Ability to multi-task, while maintaining focus amid significant distraction;
    Ability to work long and flexible hours, including weekends and holidays; and
    Demonstrated analytical competency.

    PREFERRED
    Knowledge of and familiarity with the solid waste industry
