Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) will open its new Remembrance Garden with a special ceremony on Oct. 15, which is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Remembrance Night. A unique butterfly release event will mark the opening of the new, private and serene place for anyone who experiences, or has experienced, the loss of a loved one, with a special focus on babies. Moving forward, CTMC plans to host an event in the Remembrance Garden each October.
“We want people to have a place to reflect on their infant or lost loved one,” said CTMC Director of Women’s Services Margie Lieck. “We are grateful to the Women’s Council for their support of the idea.”
Those interested in being present at the event are asked to RSVP by calling (512) 753-3818 by Wednesday, Oct. 10. Attendees will gather in the main lobby of CTMC from 5:30 to 5:45 p.m. and proceed to the Garden at 6 p.m. for the ceremony.
The Remembrance Garden is being funded by a grant from the CTMC Women’s Council, a unique fundraising committee of the CTMC Foundation that utilizes member dues to fund its efforts rather than traditional events and activities. The Council was established in 2010 to help create sustaining funding for the CTMC Women’s Center and provide annual impact grants to other non-profits serving women and children in Hays County. In addition to giving $10,000 to three local charities in 2012, the Women’s Council provided another $10,000 for the funding of the Remembrance Garden and two state-of-the-art breast pumps that contributed to the Mother-Friendly Worksite and Texas Ten Step Facility designations CTMC received earlier this year.
