Fly-In or Drive-In at San Marcos Airport
On June 3rd, the Commemorative Air Force’s Central Texas Wing and Stephanie Myers will jointly host its 5th annual car and plane show at the San Marcos airport. This fundraiser supports the organization’s mission of restoring and flying vintage military aircraft.
This is a fun event for the entire family and there is no admission charge. Cars from car clubs from Round Rock to San Antonio have been invited to bring their cars to compete for numerous trophies. General aviation, experimental, homebuilt, classic, vintage, and war bird aircraft are expected from throughout the central Texas region. The Central Texas Wing will have their vintage aircraft on static display, as well as offering History flights in these historic planes at various prices. You can select from the B-25 Mitchell Bomber, C-45, U-3A, or the AT-6 Advanced Trainer. The Tri City Flyers, a radio controlled model airplane club from San Antonio, will be displaying numerous models in the hangar. World War II period re-enactors will be setting up and displaying their authentic equipment. Food vendors and live music will add to the event and our World War II hangar, Museum, and Gift Shop will be open. The gates officially open at 12:30 pm.
Texas State AFROTC cadets will officially open the event with their color guard presenting the colors at 1:00 pm, playing of the National Anthem, and a war bird flyover.
“Our aircraft are maintained and operated by volunteer members who donate countless hours to the meticulous care of each airplane” said Bill Fier, Wing Leader. “To offset costs we rely on fundraising events like this. All contributions are tax-deductible and 100% goes directly to our educational mission, so generations of Americans will value and realize the contributions of military aviation in assuring our nation’s freedom.”Fly-In or Drive-In at San Marcos Airp...Date and Time

The Central Texas Wing is part of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), an educational non-profit organization founded in 1957. The CAF has more than 12,000 members and 165 vintage military aircraft located around the nation. These aircraft comprise the world’s largest flying museum, and are operated for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Central Texas Wing was established in March, 1974, and at present consists of 150 members who come from both military and civilian backgrounds. All members are volunteers and the Wing is housed in a World War II hangar at the San Marcos Regional Airport restoring and maintaining CAF and private historic aircraft, as well as a World War II museum and military library. Wing aircraft provide history flights, perform flyovers, and attend air shows around the country. A Casino Night, Golf Tournament, and Veteran's Day Dinner Dance are three major fundraisers held annually to support the restoration and maintenance of our historic aircraft. The Wing is open M-W-F-Sat from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for tours to school groups, civic and military organizations, ROTC cadets, scout organizations and the general public. Being involved in local communities is a major goal of the Wing as it has joined 5 local Chambers of Commerce; San Marcos; Buda; Kyle; Canyon Lake; and New Braunfels.
